Berrapy
Character brand · founder · berry plus therapy
Berrapy is a character brand about two blueberry brothers who move at completely different speeds. The name is berry plus therapy, and the premise is relief from digital fatigue and recovery through nature.
The whole brand rests on a single sentence: different speeds, one heart. There are two brothers and they are both right.
Bero and Rero
Bero, the older one, does everything hard. He is a workaholic, he nags his younger brother, he is permanently busy and permanently tired, he is stressed and he over-reacts. Rero, the younger one, is slow. He lies around looking faintly deflated, he has no stress, he is relaxed about almost everything — and at the moment it actually matters, he handles it.
Hasty Bero, slow Rero. Today, again, they find the balance.
The reason I built it as two characters instead of one is that a single mascot telling you to relax is insufferable. Everyone has met that poster. Two brothers arguing is a situation the viewer can stand inside, and most people recognise both of them because most people are both of them, usually within the same afternoon.
Nature as the medicine, not the decoration
Blueberries are not a styling choice. The brand’s claim is that the stress a digitised world builds up gets treated by something from outside the screen, and fruit is the least pretentious version of that idea I could find. It is small, it is specific, and it does not ask anyone to go on a retreat.
I designed and launched the brand and produced a goods line around the two of them.
